TAL is an award winning UK building and civil engineering firm established in 1981. Over the last 35 years we have delivered innovative new build and refurbishment projects to private and public sector clients locally in Northern Ireland and throughout Ireland and the UK from our offices in Lisburn, County Antrim.

We have developed a comprehensive portfolio of building projects in a number of key sectors including education, healthcare, historic buildings, community and leisure, residential, commercial and industrial, and ecclesiastical sectors. The civil engineering division has core expertise in environmental improvements and public realm, landfill, sports pitches and general civil engineering work.

At TAL we are passionate about our work. Each project is personally managed by a Director and a carefully selected dedicated team, encouraging collaboration, communication and interaction throughout our supply chain and the entire project team. We listen to what clients want and have established a reputation for delivering quality projects on time and within budget which exceed client’s expectations.

Our Team

TAL has a core team of 70 skilled, experienced and competent staff who are integral to its continued success. Our in-house expertise incorporates professionally qualified Contracts Managers, Health & Safety Manager, Systems Manager, Quantity Surveyors, Estimators, Bid Managers, Accountants, IT and Administrative staff, Site Managers and Site Engineers who are dedicated to providing a quality service and product for our clients.

Our building team is led by Directors Tim Hughes, Commercial Director and Damien Hughes, Building Director who have been working with TAL for over twenty years.

Our civil engineering team, is headed up by Martin Hamill, Commercial Director and Peter Murray, Contracts Director who each have over twenty years’ experience and have been leading the civils team for ten years.


Since 1981 our goal remains the same – to grow through the quality of our work and the dedication and professionalism of our staff.

As part of our commitment to continual staff development and progression we have implemented a training programme to meet the needs of each individual employee, including ongoing training, on-site skills development, job specific training and personal goal attainment.

Our staff commitment is underpinned by our ‘Investors in People’ accreditation which we have successfully held since 2009.

Quality, Safety & Environment

TAL operates an Integrated Management System and has the systems in place to manage quality, safety and the environmental impacts on all our projects.

Our Integrated Management System is accredited to ISO 9001, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001 and Safe-T-Cert (SSIP-Safety Systems in Procurement). We are committed to maintaining these standards and regularly audit our processes and procedures internally, and external auditors do the same.

TAL has successfully delivered numerous CEEQUAL, BREEAM and Eco-Homes accredited projects, and received awards for sustainability including the Green Apple Award for Newcastle Public Realm.

TAL’s commitment to occupational health has been recognised by the Annual Occupational Safety Awards which recognise how organisations manage health and safety at work:

TAL is a member of the Construction Employers Federation in Northern Ireland and is registered with the Construction Industry Training Board and Constructionline.


New Museum of Orange Heritage & Headquarter Offices at Schomberg House

Hemsworth Court, Belfast – Supported Living Accommodation for People with Dementia

Youth Resource Centre, Carnbane, Newry

We confirm that TAL Ltd were employed by the Education Authority as Main Contractor for Newry Youth Resource Centre. The building was designed to provide a strategic base for the delivery of Youth Services within the Education Authority area. TAL successfully delivered the building within budget and on programme and efficiently managed their supply chain during construction.
